Regarding Impending War
February 3, 2003
We recently had contact with Lama Lobsang
Chophel, traveling with His Holiness Penor Rinpoche, and have been instructed
to share
the information
herein to the best of our ability. May all beings benefit!
Some students recently had the chance to ask His Holiness Penor Rinpoche, "With
the wars always going on in the world and the chance that a more serious
war could break out, what should we students pray?"
Rinpoche responded, "Pray to the three jewels, Buddha, Dharma, and
Sangha and feel great compassion for all those who must experience
the horrors of war - including the soldiers. There is nothing more powerful
than that."
He further chanted:
"Lama-la kyap su chi-o
Sangye-la kyap su chi-o
Cho-la kyap su chi-o
Gendun-la kyap su chi-o"
Which means:
"I take refuge in the Lama.
I take refuge in the Buddha.
I take refuge in the Dharma.
I take refuge in the Sangha."
This is a particularly powerful prayer for those who have taken refuge
vows, but even those who have not yet had that opportunity should feel
no obstacle
to chanting these lines as much as possible.
Also helpful for this practice
is to remind ourselves of the teachings His Holiness allowed us to
publish on the Palyul website. Click to
